When BRP created the new platform ATV platform a few years ago, the engineer team looked at the rack and attachment methods in the marketplace and determined that none of them were good enough for Can-Am vehicles and owners.

So they went to the drawing board and developed the LinQ System that literally plugs accessories into the vehicle. It consists of diamond-shaped openings in key locations on the standard racks and the LinQ latch. You insert the latch into the opening and with just a quarter turn of the lever, an accessory is securely attached to the vehicle.

It takes just a second without tools and it’s so strong the item literally becomes part of the vehicle. A small Allen set screw can be tightened to lock the latch into place near permanently, deterring thefts.

“We developed LinQ System along with the vehicle and it’s now standard on nearly every Can-Am ATV and SSV,” said Allen Bernais, Product Manager for Can-Am Off-Road Accessories & Clothing . “The LinQ accessories themselves are built with the same attention to style and detail as the vehicle. For instance, we use castings in areas where steel tubing was used in the past for a high level of fit and finish. Can-Am owners expect that.”

The system adds a whole new level of versatility to Can-Am off-road vehicles, because you can add or remove accessories so quickly.

“You can turn an Outlander Max from a weekday workhorse with Gear Grips and racks into a weekend luxury cruiser in a few minutes,” said Bernais. “Or remove cargo bags and racks once you get to your destination for free riding.”

Also note that the LinQ openings on the racks are designed to be used to secure miscellaneous items with traditional attachments, such as ropes, straps and bungees.

Here is a selection of LinQ System Accessories for Can-Am ATV and Side-by-Sides:

Trunk Box for Outlander and Outlander MAX models

Retrofit adaptor plate for Outlander models

We are also partnering with outdoor accessory leader Kolpin for LinQ System accessories:

Gun Boot Rack

So really, as with all accessories from Can-Am, LinQ items integrate perfectly with your vehicle, fit perfectly and match its colors. And they also maintain your vehicle’s original warranty.

See all LinQ accessories on store.can-am.com.

Valcourt, Québec, April 10, 2013 – Can-Am® 4×4 ATV racers earned seven of the top 12 overall morning finishes, won a total of five classes and earned all 15 possible class podium positions at round three of the 2013 Amsoil Grand National Cross Country (GNCC) in Morganton, N.C. JB Racing / Can-Am DS 450™ Pro Jarrod McClure earned fifth in the XC1 ATV Pro class. At round two of the Texas Off-Road Nationals (TORN) in Paradise, Texas, Louis Powersports / Can-Am racer Cody Miller won the Pro ATV class and his teammate and Maverick™ 1000R X® rs pilot Hunter Miller took second in the UTV Expert class.

“Our Can-Am ATV racers had a great Saturday at the Steele Creek GNCC in North Carolina, winning all five 4×4 classes and, once again, sweeping the morning 4×4 podium. Michael Swift notched his first U2 class win aboard the Renegade® 800R X xc while defending 4×4 Open class champion Bryan Buckhannon remained undefeated in 2013,” said Jimmie O’Dell, Race Manager, Can-Am.

GNCC – Round Three

The U2 class featured a fierce battle between Can-Am Renegade® 800R racers Michael Swift and class points leader Robert Smith. The two 4×4 racers exchanged the lead multiple times during the five-lap, two-hour race. The race came down to the final lap with Smith holding a narrow lead. However, a few lapped racers slowed Smith and let Swift (Team UXC / Can-Am X-Team) regain the top spot only a few miles from the finish. Swift earned his first U2 class win in 2013 and first 4×4 class victory since winning round three a year ago at Steele Creek. Third place went to Can-Am racer Jordan Phillips.

In the 4×4 Open class, Buckhannon took an early lead aboard his ATV Parts Plus / Can-Am X-Team 2013 Outlander™ 800R and never looked back. He crossed the finish line more than four minutes ahead of Tanner Bowles, who was second on a Can-Am. Buckhannon joined U2 class pilots Swift and Smith on the 4×4 overall morning podium. Bo Jones, also on Can-Am, rounded out the 4×4 Open class podium.

In 4×4 Lites action, defending champion Kevin Trantham and fellow Can-Am Outlander ATV racer Andrew Langston clashed early for the lead. However, Trantham won his second straight class victory. Can-Am Renegade 500 racer Michael Edwards was third.

Fourteen racers entered the 4×4 Senior class at Steele Creek. North Carolina resident and Can-Am racer Terry Whiteside won and was joined on the class podium by reigning class champion Forrest Whorton and, in third, fellow Can-Am racer Jerry Roberts. The 4×4 Novice class podium was also an all Can-Am affair. Joseph Sichelstiel notched his first win ahead of Nicholas Eichelberger and class points leader Ryan Smith.

Coming off his recent overall win in the AMA ATV Hare Scrambles National Championship Series, McClure (JB Racing / Can-Am) was hoping to carry over his momentum to the GNCC XC1 Pro class. Unfortunately, a bad start and another mishap slowed his chase for the podium and he had to settle for a very respectable fifth-place finish at Steele Creek.

TORN – Round Two

Cody and Hunter Miller (Louis Powersports / Can-Am) had a good weekend at round two of TORN at Legacy Farms in Paradise, Texas. In the Pro ATV class, Cody won by more than 30 seconds to improve to 2-for-2 on the season is the class points leader with his DS 450 ATV. Hunter, who overcame a mechanical issue that delayed him for more than seven minutes, battled back to finish in third in the Pro ATV class.

The Murray Motorsports team had a spectacular podium finish at the Mint 400 and narrowly missing second-place by only two seconds. Josh Creamer — despite a first-turn crash in the first moto and very wet, muddy conditions — won a Pro class moto and notched an impressive second-place finish overall at round one of the AMA ATV MX series.”

Side-By-Side

Numerous Can-Am Maverick 1000R side-by-side vehicles participated at round three of WORCS held at Crazy Horse Resort in Lake Havasu City, Ariz. James Hill (No. 91 IMG Motorsports / GBC / Can-Am) was the top-finishing pro Maverick 1000R racer, earning a spot on the SxS Pro Production class podium with a strong second-place finish. Californian John Pacheco took sixth place in the same class with his Maverick.

Hill started on the first line in his class and was in the top five after one lap. Hill moved into the top three one lap later and kept pushing toward the front. He then took over the physical lead on the sixth-and-final lap, but had to settle for second overall due to adjusted time.

“The track was gnarly. My goal was to get out front quick and save the car the best I could due to the rough course,” said Hill.

At the grueling Mint 400 BITD desert race near Las Vegas, Nev., Murray Racing drove its Maverick 1000R X rs to one of the closest SSV race finishes in history. Derek and Jason Murray finished in third place, but were amazingly only two seconds from earning second-place overall in the SxS Pro class after adjusted time.

Can-Am X-Team member and Maverick side-by-side pilot Cory Sappington (Desert Toyz) finished in fifth place in the SxS Pro class.

ATV

At the opening round of the Mtn. Dew AMA ATV MX Nationals held at Aonia Pass Motocross Track in Washington, Ga., Creamer piloted his BCS Performance-backed Can-Am DS 450 to second overall. Creamer, making a full return to the ATV MX Nationals stage, was involved in a first turn pile-up that put him in last place at the start of moto one. The former ATV MX national champion regained his composure and started to pass his way through the field. Despite muddy conditions, Creamer carved his way to sixth place by the end of moto one.

Creamer won the moto-two holeshot in the muck and then expanded the gap over second place after posting the fastest lap of the moto on lap four. He ended up winning by almost nine seconds. The moto win combined with his sixth-place run in the first moto earned Creamer second overall in the Pro class.

“It was a relief to get the holeshot in the second moto. I did a quick look back after the first lap and saw I was already pulling on the guys. I just put my head down and charged,” said Creamer. “I have to thank Jay [Brazee] and everyone from BCS / Can-Am. They made the DS 450 run flawlessly. I could hear all the fans out there rooting for me and I have to thank them the most”

Valcourt, Québec, March 26, 2013– Motoworks / Can-Am pro racer Josh Frederick suffered a serious back injury after crashing during the Pro ATV race Sunday, March 24, at round three of the World Off-Road Championship Series (WORCS) in Lake Havasu City, Ariz. Medical crews were on the scene quickly and, after complaining of the loss of feeling to his legs, he was transported to a local hospital for evaluation. Further examination revealed that Frederick’s T-5 vertebrae was fractured during the violent crash. Frederick was then flown to a level-one trauma center in Las Vegas for additional examinations and surgery.

Frederick underwent surgery Sunday evening to remove the piece of bone lodged in his spine and his back was fused. The surgery was successful and Frederick is now resting comfortably at the hospital. He did not regain feeling to his legs after the surgery and due to the amount of swelling it is not currently possible to determine a time frame for potential recovery or paralysis. Josh has been fitted with a back brace and on Tuesday he will start therapy.

“Josh is such a wonderful person, a devoted father and husband and a dedicated professional racer. While it deeply saddens me to learn of the severity of this injury, I also know that Josh is an extremely hard worker, a fighter and a true champion, I pray that he will persevere and overcome this challenge,” said Jimmie O’Dell, Race Manager, Can-Am. “Josh and his family are in the thoughts and prayers of everyone at BRP and the entire Can-Am racing family.”

Frederick will not be racing for the remainder of the 2013 season and the Motoworks / Can-Am team will shift its focus to ensuring Frederick has everything he needs during this recovery. Frederick and his wife thank everyone for the outpouring of support from his fans, fellow WORCS racers and the entire international racing community.

“[We’re] Trying to stay positive. Prayers are definitely appreciated,” said wife Tiffany Frederick. “He’s way bummed and worried about everyone but himself. This is going to be a long, wait-and-see outcome. We have faith in the power of healing but also know it is always God’s will.”

He was currently competing in both the Pro ATV class and SxS Pro Production classes in WORCS, along with the SCORE series where he was defending his #1a ATV title for the Motoworks / Can-Am race team. He recently earned the first-ever WORCS podium finish for the new Can-Am Maverick 1000R X rs side-by-side at round two and was the racer who gave the DS 450 its historic first win in 2007.

Editor’s note: The Josh Frederick Foundation is in the final organizational stages and will exist to provide financial support to those with spinal cord injuries and promote spinal cord research.

Last year, Can-Am® searched for the Ultimate Mudder. Amid stiff competition, we designated Texas rider John Ferranti with the title. By his standards and his own admission, John’s performance underwhelmed last season. We asked John about his preparation for the upcoming mudding season and what we can expect out of his rides at Mud Nationals.

Can-Am: So, John, it’s been a year since we last spoke with you. Since then, you received a sponsorship after Mud Nationals. Can you tell us a little about that?

John Ferranti: Yeah, a pretty amazing thing happened. I was asked by Jason Shanas, the President of Gorilla Axle, if I wanted to race on his team. I had no idea it was gonna happen like that, but I’m very grateful for the chance to race with such a great group of people – not to mention being sponsored by the ultimate ride itself, Can-Am.

Can-Am: What did becoming the Ultimate Mudder do for your mud racing career?

John Ferranti: Well, let’s just say I didn’t gain any popularity in Canada. But here locally, where the racing matters, I went from a guy that most folks in the racing community either knew or had seen around, to the guy everyone listens for and wants to watch race. And quite frankly, I didn’t perform nearly as well last year as I had expected, so I was surprised to see people show any interest in my season.

Can-Am: How is your preparation for Mud Nationals going?

John Ferranti: Haha. I’m right on schedule. I have nothing complete. And as of the current time, I have approximately 12 days before I leave for Mud Nationals. So, yeah – nothing done, no time left. I’m right on schedule.

Can-Am: Are we going to see you riding Frankenroid or Green Thing again?

John Ferranti: Green Thing was retired shortly after the series was filmed and ended up getting stolen. It was heartbreaking to see all my time and work disappear, but I guess that provides more time and work for the new units.

Frankenroid was my horse last year and underwent a personality rearrangement by having the plastics changed to black and yellow. I feel pretty strongly that just changing the plastics made that machine infinitely more ornery. When I didn’t crash it or just flat-out destroy something on it, it ran very good, up there with all the top bikes last year. I’m still not sure if I’m gonna bring Frankenroid this year, since the motor is just about done and is having some electrical gremlins. But it still runs, and strong at that. Guess that will be a surprise.

Can-Am: Can you tell us a little bit about your race bike without giving away any secrets?

John Ferranti: Sure. This year I will be using a hybrid fuel consisting of ground-up unicorn horns with awesomesauce as an activator. Should make for a pretty wild ride.

Can-Am: What’s the goal for the 2013 CMR series?

John Ferranti: Represent the team, Gorilla Axle Powered by Can Am, by standing on the podium every race.

Can-Am: Any chance we might see you racing a Can-Am® Maverick™?

John Ferranti: Me? Slim to none. But our teammate, Steve Hittle, has been working really hard to get the Can-Am® Commander™ on the podium. So with his experience and expertise, he will remain the pilot of our highly competitive SxS, the Maverick. You might see me on the trail with one sometime this summer, though, when the Can-Am® Maverick™ MAX™ drops.

Can-Am: What classes do you plan on racing this season?

John Ferranti: I’ve historically raced only the Pro-B and Open classes, but thanks to Gorilla and Can-Am, this year I will be looking to add yet another Can-Am to the podium in the Pro-A class.

Can-Am: Can we plan on seeing you partnering with Dakotah Klein in the “Buddy Run” again?

John Ferranti: Be there early and get a good seat, because if you thought we put on a great show last year, a broken belt at the finish line and pushing the machine across the tape was nothing compared to the unorganized chaos we plan to unleash this year.

Can-Am: You have any advice for fans headed to Mud Nationals for the first time?

John Ferranti: Yeah, go with the flow. Don’t try to be the flow. There is a lot of great stuff to see, and some of the most innovative manufacturers in the ATV world will be there showing their products. Not to mention it will feature some of the best racing of the season, while everyone’s machines are fresh, and folks are looking to get a quick jump in the points.

Maverick 1000R SxS Makes its GNCC series Debut

Valcourt, Québec, March 19, 2013 – Can-Am® 4×4 ATV racers swept all five 4×4 classes and placed two riders on the overall morning podium at round two of the 2013 AMSOIL Grand National Cross Country (GNCC) series in Washington, Ga. In the first round of side-by-side vehicle racing in Georgia, a total of 11 Can-Am Maverick™1000R racers competed with four Can-Am vehicles earning a podium finish in each of the four GNCC “UTV” classes.

JB Racing / Can-Am racer Kyle Chaney finished third in the XC1 Modified class at round two of the GNCC series in Georgia. It was the opening round for side by sides and the GNCC debut for the Can-Am Maverick 1000R.

“Having Can-Am ATV racers dominate their morning 4×4 classes and to see Kevin Trantham and Robert Smith on the morning podium was great. It was a good weekend in Georgia overall, as we had numerous podiums, including two for the new Can-Am Maverick 1000R in its GNCC side-by-side racing debut,” said Jimmie O’Dell, Race Manager, Can-Am. “It was a close finish for Kyle Chaney and his Maverick 1000R X® rs in its first GNCC side-by-side event, as he narrowly missed taking the overall race win. This was a good debut for the Maverick and we fully expect to improve our results at round two in late April.”

ATV

Trantham, the reigning 4×4 Lites class champion, took the holeshot and raced away to a victory aboard his new 2013 Can-Am Outlander 500. He won the class by more than seven minutes, earned the top spot on the 4×4 podium and also earned second on the overall morning podium. Rounding out the 4×4 Lites podium were Can-Am riders Andrew Langston and Scott Day.

“I got a good start and my Can-Am Outlander worked awesome,” said Trantham. “It sure was good to have a good race today after a bad race in Florida.”

Smith raced his Can-Am Renegade® to the U2 class win and third overall in the morning. It was Smith’s second consecutive class win and trip to the overall morning podium. He was joined on the U2 class podium by fellow Renegade ATV racers Jordan Phillips and third-place racer Danny Jessee.

The 4x4 podium at round two of the 2013 GNCC series featured Can-Am ATV racers Bryan Buckhannon, Kevin Trantham and Rob Smith.

Bryan Buckhannon earned his second win in a row in the 4×4 Open class aboard his Can-Am Outlander™ 800R. Buckhannon, who was sixth overall in the morning, grabbed the early lead and went on to win by close to 50 seconds. Bo Jones and Sam Williams, were second and third, respectively. Other Can-Am ATV racers to notch class wins were 4×4 Senior (40+) racer Terry Whiteside and 4×4 Novice class racer Ryan Smith.

Side-By-Side

Chaney was the top finishing Can-Am Maverick 1000R pilot in the XC1 Modified class in Georgia. Chaney (JB Racing / Can-Am) started on line two and had to race against time to catch the leaders. Early in the race, Chaney was in the top three, but fell to sixth at the midpoint due to a large amount of lapped traffic. However, by lap five Chaney raced to the overall lead based on his adjusted time. However, lapped traffic continued to be a factor and pushed Chaney back to third place by lap seven. He finished the eighth-lap race in third place less than six seconds back from first.

“Can-Am got it right. The Maverick is the best side-by-side I’ve driven,” said Chaney. “I am really picky about my machine and my team worked all night to get it the way I wanted it. I can’t thank them enough.”

In the XC2 Limited class, Can-Am racer Mike Penland put in his best ride in a side-by-side by earning second in the Maverick 1000R X rs. Two other Can-Am side-by-side teams earned podium spots in their class. Team Travalena took second in the XC3 Lites class in its Commander side-by-side. Team Burkey finished third in the UTV Novice Limited class in its Can-Am Commander 1000.

Beginning during World War II, jeeps and now standard equipment on many Can-Am® ATVs and SSVs, WARN is the name that serious off-road enthusiasts trust. We talked with them about their awesome WARN Can-Am Commander™ and the importance of being prepared for the unexpected.

Can-Am: Tell us a little bit about your company and how you got into the off-road and power sports industry

WARN: WARN Industries was founded in 1948 by Arthur Warn. He had invented locking hubs for surplus World War II jeeps. In 1959, he offered the first electric winch intended for a vehicle (again, a jeep), and kept growing the company. Over time, WARN began offering new, innovative products and built up quite a following due to the durability and performance of the products. WARN was also the first company to offer a dedicated power<ins cite="mailto:Cramer%20Krasselt" datetime="2013-03-05T10:14"> </ins>sports winch, beginning in the mid-1980s.

Can-Am: Last year we featured the WARN Commander. Why did you choose Can-Am as your show vehicle?

Warn: We’ve got a great relationship with Can-Am, and this year we’ve made some more modifications to our Commander to give it a fresh new look.

Can-Am: Can you give us a breakdown on the build and what modifications have been installed?

WARN: The Oregon Dunes at Sand Lake and North Bend/Coos Bay and Florence are great places to ride. We’ve also got Browns Camp outside of Tillamook, Oregon as well as Christmas Valley in central Oregon. We also love Moab!

WARN: Great power, durability and frankly, they look cool.

Can-Am: Any thoughts on the all-new Maverick?

WARN: Looks like a lot of fun! Can’t wait to get our hands on one!

Can-Am: Can you explain the importance of having a reliable recovery winch on your ATV or SxS?

WARN: When you’re out and get stuck, you need your winch to work. Plus, when you invest in a power<ins cite="mailto:Cramer%20Krasselt" datetime="2013-03-05T10:15"> </ins>sports vehicle and are in a situation where you need to recover the vehicle, you want to make sure your winch is up to pulling your investment!

Can-Am: Why should owners choose a WARN winch above other brands?

WARN: WARN puts an incredible amount of time and effort into the design, testing and manufacturing of our winches. All of our winches undergo rigorous testing in a lab and in the real world before they get into consumers’ hands. Plus, we back all of our winches with a great warranty and customer service that is world class.

Can-Am: Any advice to owners about using recovery winches when they’re out on the trail?

WARN: Safety is of the utmost importance. We recommend all users check out our free Basic Guide to Winching Techniques, which can be downloaded free from our website.
Valcourt, Québec, March 15, 2013 – Five Can-Am® 4×4 ATV racers won their class at the opening round of the 2013 AMSOIL Grand National Cross Country (GNCC) series in River Ranch, Fla. Robert Smith, who won the U2 class aboard his Can-Am Renegade® 4×4, was the top finishing Can-Am racer and also took second overall on the morning podium. Reigning 4×4 Open class champion Bryan Buckhannon notched a victory on his Outlander™ 800R. XC1 ATV Pro class racer Jarrod McClure earned fifth in his first GNCC race competing on his Can-Am DS 450™ ATV.

“We had a good opening round of GNCC racing, earning five class victories, a top five in the Pro class and having Can-Am racers Robert Smith and Bryan Buckhannon reach the overall morning podium,” said Jimmie O’Dell, Race Manager, Can-Am. “We’re excited to be back racing in the GNCC series and are already looking ahead to this weekend in Georgia. Not only will be looking to notch more victories with Can-am ATVs, but we will debut the exceptional Can-Am Maverick™1000R in GNCC side-by-side action.”

Robert Smith finished second overall on the morning GNCC podium and won the U2 class on his Can-Am Renegade ATV.

The Florida course lived up to its reputation as being one of the most difficult races of the season, as the extremely dusty 10.5-mile track was very rough, sandy and full of palmetto tree roots and stumps. In morning action, Smith not only won the competitive U2 class aboard his Can-AM Renegade, but also surprised himself in the process. Smith, who overcame a somewhat serious arm injury suffered a month prior to the race, outran every 4×4 in the field to earn second overall in the morning session. Renegade ATV racers Jordan Phillips and Corry Savage rounded out the U2 class podium.

“It’s big to win the opening round. I never thought it would happen because I’ve been off the quad for a month. To go out there and get a win was unbelievable,” said Smith. “The track was rough with lots of roots and rough edges. It was a lot of fun to be on a four-wheel drive Renegade and stay on top of everything.”
